Supercritical CO2 processing of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids – Towards a biorefinery for fish waste valorization

چکیده
Driven by growing prevalence of chronic diseases and consumer’s health awareness, food supplements nutraceuticals based on omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are extensively marketed nowadays. However, commercial concentrates still present quality issues related to their purity, bioavailability, easily-oxidizable nature, compelling the industry seek for more efficient extraction, concentration formulation methods. Technologies use supercritical CO2 (scCO2) a promising alternative, replacing conventional organic solvents providing milder conditions an inert atmosphere, which reduce risk oxidation. The review analyzes latest advances scCO2 processing PUFAs, focusing its application in biorefinery strategies valorization fish by-products. Still, further research process fundamentals is necessary order increase yield purity while reducing energy auxiliary materials, especially transesterification steps.

Evaluation of the Relationship between Endometriosis and Omega-3 and Omega-6 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids
Background: Endometriosis is a common chronic inflammation causing major problems including infertility. The role of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids as their potential anti-inflammatory effects in endometriosis needs to be further explored. The objective of this study was to compare serum phospholipid fatty acid profile in endometriosis patients with controls, and to explore the correlation of ...

What are Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Why are They Helpful? Omega-3 fatty acids have become quite popular because of the many positive effects on human health. Omega-3 fatty acids benefit both healthy people as well as those with cardiovascular disease. Omega-3 fatty acids are thought to improve heart health by lowering triglycerides, raising good cholesterol (HDL, or high density lipoprotein), thin...
متن کاملHeterologous Reconstitution of Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Arabidopsis
Reconstitution of nonnative, very-long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (VLC-PUFA) biosynthetic pathways in Arabidopsis thaliana was undertaken. The introduction of three primary biosynthetic activities to cells requires the stable coexpression of multiple proteins within the same cell. Herein, we report that C22 VLC-PUFAs were synthesized from C18 precursors by reactions catalyzed by Δ(6)-desa...
متن کاملThe Role of Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Stroke
Stroke is the third commonest cause of death following cardiovascular diseases and cancer. In particular, in recent years, the morbidity and mortality of stroke keep remarkable growing. However, stroke still captures people attention far less than cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Past studies have shown that oxidative stress and inflammation play crucial roles in the progress of cerebral inj...
متن کاملChemopreventive and Chemotherapeutic Effects of Fish Oil derived Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids on Colon Carcinogenesis
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cause of cancer related death in the world. Multiple lines of evidence suggest that there is an association between consumption of dietary fat and colon cancer risk. Not only the amount but also the type and the ratio of fatty acids comprising dietary fats consumed have been implicated in the etiology and pathogenesis of colon cancer. Omega-3 (n-3) pol...
